THE ORIGINS OF THE RGV ARTS COUNCIL

There are many strong arguments for encouraging the arts in the Rio Grande Valley. Three years ago, the McAllen Chamber of Commerce oversaw the creation of the Rio Grande Valley Arts Council. The Arts Council is a committee of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce’s Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and acts as a local arts agency Valley-wide for local artists and arts organizations. The Council acts as a funding agent for existing local artists and organizations and serves as a clearing house for local arts and entertainment information. This creation was a necessary component for the development and promotion of the arts in our local community.

The organization’s mission statement:
To enhance the quality of life in the Rio Grande Valley by promoting the appreciation, development and advancement of the arts.
