The
McAllen Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the
Rio Grande Valley Arts Council would like to acknowledge
the winners of the Rio Grande Valley Arts Council grant.
Grant applications were submitted in January 7th and
recipients were notified of their award at the end
of January.
“The arts is an area we have pledged our support, and awarding these grants
to local artists and art organizations is a great way to show that we are seriously
making a commitment to the arts in our community,” said McAllen Chamber
of Commerce President and CEO Steve Ahlenius.
Local artists and grant organizations were invited to submit applications
for projects. Applicants did not have to be a 501(c)(3) organization
to apply. A total of $6,000 was awarded to 8 different art organizations.
Grants were awarded to the International Museum of Art & Science,
the Omniarts Guild, UTPA Dance Ensemble, UTPA Bronc TV, PSJA Liberty
Middle School Theatre Department, Phoenix Productions, La Puesta
Del Sol, and San Juan Middle School Dance.
“We hope that our contribution to the arts will continue to grow,” said
Ahlenius. “The arts make a significant contribution to our way of life,
and the McAllen Chamber of Commerce along with the Rio Grande Valley Arts Council
will continue to encourage the development of this important aspect of our community
in any way we can.”
